Aberystwyth was founded in 1872 as the first University institution in Wales. With a long tradition of academic excellence, it now has more than 10,000 students studying in a beautiful campus location overlooking Cardigan Bay.

Aberystwyth University offers world renowned teaching and research as well as an award winning student experience. According to the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey, Aberystwyth is fourth in the UK for teaching and learning, and in the Top 10 in the UK for academic facilities.

The 2014 REF reported that 95% of the research activity submitted by Aberystwyth University was of an internationally recognised standard or higher, with world leading research (4*) identified in all 17 of the Units of Assessment submitted.

Aberystwyth provides an inexpensive, safe and secure living environment with one of the lowest crime rates in the UK. In addition to this, the student experience is excellent, offering a lively social scene, in a diverse and friendly local population.

Seventeen academic departments offer a wide range of subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate study. Aberystwyth is particularly strong in International Politics – the first department of its kind in the world, founded in 1919 – also in Environmental Sciences; Agriculture and Biological Sciences; Theatre, Film and Television; Law and Criminology; Computer Science; History and Celtic Studies.
