Meet Kush, a Human Resources Management graduate from Cardiff Metropolitan University. He began his time in Wales studying for his BA in Business and Management – Specialist Pathway, before progressing onto his master’s.
“My journey to working at Deloitte started when Cardiff Met announced that they would be coming to the university to deliver a talk on their 12-month placement opportunities available for second year students. I immediately applied for the placement and was invited for an online assessment which included a questionnaire and video interview. Some days passed and I was told I was selected for an interview at their Cardiff office.
“The interview was divided into three parts; evaluated group discussion, an IT assessment and a face-to-face interview with a panel of two lovely interviewers. Afterwards, we had our feedback sent by the panel and were told if we were successful or not.
“I was extremely grateful for the huge amount of help I received when prepping for the interview process. The team at the Cardiff Met careers service worked with me to tailor my CV, advised me on what to expect during the process, and helped me feel as ready as I could be!
“With that help, I was one of just six people selected out of the 35 who applied. I was on ‘cloud nine’ when I was offered the position at Deloitte! I was so excited to be gaining work experience in an actual office.
“I was lucky to be working in the assurance team as I got to work on different engagements with multiple senior management teams. I was given a variety of tasks to complete which developed me professionally and my team supported me in every possible way. I made a lot of new friends and had the best time of my work life!
“Soon it was time for me to finish the first part of placement in audit and assurance and move to quality, risk and security in March 2020 where we learnt about other departments in the firm.
“At the start of my placement, 12 months seemed like a very long period, but it went so fast! During my time at Deloitte, I learnt a lot of soft skills which have contributed to my personal growth and made me more responsible. I’ve also built a strong network with colleagues both nationally and internationally.
“During my placement, the team at Cardiff Met stayed in touch with me, offering mental health support and career support which made me feel extremely supported. This continued once I completed my placement at Deloitte, where they helped me navigate my future career goals.
“I couldn’t speak highly enough of the careers service at Cardiff Met. They helped me enormously to secure my placements, as well as my part-time and full-time jobs.
“Cardiff EDGE has made a hugely positive impact on my career, and I can only thank them for everything that they’ve done for me.”
Following his time at Cardiff Met university, Kush has secured a job as an HR Administrator and Recruiter.
