Now in her final year of an undergraduate degree in International Relations at Cardiff University, Karlina has enjoyed the freedom to delve into her interests in digital technologies and cybersecurity. She has appreciated the supportive staff, the variety of study spaces, and the wide range of clubs and societies the university has to offer.
Cardiff is known for its lively student atmosphere and diverse international community. Through academic life and everyday interactions, Karlina has gained a broader global perspective and a deeper appreciation of Welsh culture, making her time in Cardiff a truly transformative experience.
From Australia to Mexico, Pakistan to France, I have met people from all over the world and gained a broader global perspective than I ever would have back home.
"Hi there! My name is Karlina and I am in my third and final year of my undergraduate degree at Cardiff University. I have had a wonderful time studying International Relations in Cardiff because of the wide range of courses available to me, so I have been able to tailor my degree to what interests me most, which is digital technologies and cybersecurity.
All the staff are super welcoming and always willing to help with assignments. The learning environment is great as well; there are countless study spaces on campus, whether it be one of the many libraries, the Student Union, or the Centre for Student Life. There are also many cafes in the centre of Cardiff that are perfect for study time. Also, there are hundreds of clubs and societies to participate in, which is a great chance to meet new people from different courses.
With the proximity to the city centre, the lively student life activities, and the consistent engagement with other students and staff regarding studies and assignments, there is never a dull moment in Cardiff!
Coming from a small town in the United States, I had a very limited world view, so I really value the diverse student population in Cardiff. From Australia to Mexico, Pakistan to France, I have met people from all over the world and gained a broader global perspective than I ever would have back home.
Alongside my degree, I learn more about the world by having conversations with people from different backgrounds and sharing experiences. Learning about Welsh culture has been a wonderful part of my university education. I enjoy participating in holidays like St David’s Day, traveling to different national parks and historical sites like the Brecon Beacons and Caerphilly Castle, and learning about Welsh culture and its language from Welsh natives on my courses and my old flatmates.
I love sharing parts of Wales with people in America, including pictures and souvenirs – I even got my sister a Welsh love spoon for her wedding! Living and studying in Cardiff has been a life-changing experience that has opened doors for further international interests and opportunities, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice to pursue my undergrad at Cardiff University.
I knew coming to Cardiff for my studies would be a great choice. It’s all that I dreamed of and more!"
