Kirandeep, from north California, moved to Wales in November 2021 and is currently studying for the LLB Law Accelerated Route at University of South Wales.
Kirandeep said: “From the moment I first visited Wales in 2017, I knew I wanted to come back.
“After completing a degree in literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, I spoke to a college advisor for two to three years who helped me fill in the paperwork, gave me a list of UK universities with law programmes, and helped me to find the right course at the best school.
“Law school in the US typically takes about three years – but the accelerated programme at University of South Wales caught my attention as it was a two-year degree and I didn’t want to waste any more time.
“My course isn’t easy as there’s a lot of material to take on but I find that exams are less pressured here and we have more time to complete them.
“It’s also more affordable to study in Wales and there are fewer requirements upon entry.
“Every day I’m learning things and I feel like I’m in love with the course, the country and I get excited to learn about law in the place where it first originated.
“Moving to Wales was a big step but making the decision to study here is the best thing I have done with my life. I love it, it’s so peaceful and quiet and the campus is beautiful and green.
“To any other students thinking of moving to Wales, I’d say, don’t expect it to be like home.
“The culture is so different, and although six months on, I still get homesick and miss the food and my family back home, I have never had a bad experience here: people are so friendly and sweet.
“Moving to Wales has made me appreciate the world. It has broadened my perspective and opened my mind – and in two years, I get to go back home with a law degree and hopefully find work with a firm in the US. I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
